Privacy policy

Last updated: 2026-08-17

FeatherSpeak (“the app”) is published by the operator of dexterity.works. This policy describes how the Android app handles information.

Summary

Your documents, listening progress, and generated audio stay on the device. Reading and speech work offline after you install the Kokoro voice model. The app has no account, no advertising, and no analytics SDK. It uses the network only when you ask it to download that model or a public-domain book.

Data stored on your device

We do not receive this data. Uninstalling the app removes it unless Android backup on your device copies app files.

Network use

The app requests internet access for two optional jobs you start yourself:

  1. Kokoro voice model — a one-time download of about 330 MB from the public sherpa-onnx release on GitHub (kokoro-en-v0_19). After it is installed, synthesis runs on the device. Airplane mode is enough.
  2. Project Gutenberg catalog — search queries go to gutendex.com, a JSON index of Project Gutenberg. Book files are fetched from Project Gutenberg over HTTPS when you choose a title.

Your imported documents are not uploaded. The model host and Gutenberg mirrors see ordinary download metadata (IP address, user agent) the same way any HTTPS download does.

Permissions

The app does not ask for contacts, location, microphone, or camera.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

If a future version adds accounts, sync, or other collection, this policy will be updated before those features ship.
