Privacy policy

Last updated: 2026-08-17

InterWail (“the app”) is published by the operator of dexterity.works. This policy describes the web client. It is not a privacy policy for Stalwart or for whoever operates the mail server you connect to.

Summary

InterWail is a browser client. It has no application backend of its own and does not store your mail. Mail, calendars, contacts, and filters stay on the mail server you sign into. Session credentials are kept for the tab only. Display preferences are stored in the browser’s LocalStorage.

dexterity.works does not receive your mailbox contents when you run InterWail against your own server.

What the client stores

Clearing site data for the InterWail origin removes those preferences. Closing the tab ends the session.

What leaves the browser

The client sends JMAP requests to the mail server origin you configured (typically the same host, reverse-proxied to Stalwart). That traffic includes whatever you do in the app: read and send mail, manage events and contacts, and edit Sieve scripts.

Remote images in HTML mail are blocked by default. If you override that for a message, your browser fetches those image URLs and the image host can see the request.

The InterWail client does not include advertising or analytics SDKs and does not phone home to dexterity.works.

The mail server is a separate controller

Whoever runs the Stalwart instance you use — you, your employer, or a host — can access mailbox data the same way any mail operator can. Their policy, retention, and logs apply to that server. Read that policy before you sign in.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

If a hosted InterWail service is offered later, or the client starts sending telemetry, this policy will be updated before that ships.
